These elegant small dinner plates are hand carved from petrified wood with a polished fine edge and sold as a set of two pieces.

Also known as fossil wood, petrified wood began its life as timber and has literally turned to stone over thousands of years. Found deep underground, having been buried by volcanic ash and earth and starved of oxygen, minerals and sediment slowly seep into the wood, leaving the original patterns of the timber but changing the molecular structure to stone.

As each tree trunk has different patterns and colours in the timber, each plate is then as unique as a thumb print. SOUQ selects pieces based on their quality and colour but due to the uniqueness of each slice of petrified wood, the shape and colour of each plate will vary from piece to piece.

Dimensions: approximately 25-28cm at their widest point. Size will vary from plate to plate.
